I voted excellent for how to act like this was not the content. Still gives me chills after reading the book, then watching the movie. Two ex-CONS are traveling to their destination to a family of stealing money from a safe one of the drawbacks, he met while in prison. During the trip, the tension begins to mount, as the soundtrack for the film adds to the overall forecast. After the murderers are done with their work on the farm, the next morning the family found the remains of the daughter of the church friend. The blood-curdling scream, as the scene pans on the phone with the cutting of the cord, actually my blood run cold and gave me the chills. That the murderers meet their destiny is only a small consolation for this family convicted. Robert Blake was excellent in his image as Perry Smith. The book was also very well written by Truman Capote.
Just one of the best ever! Richard Brooks' adaptation of Truman Capote non-fiction novel is really an artistic achievement. Impressive black and white cinematography (which should have won an Oscar), a disturbing score Quincy Jones and tremendous performances by Robert Blake and Scott Wilson as the oddly matched murderers. This film was 0 for 4 at the Academy Awards and was not even nominated for Best Picture, while Dr Doolittle was. Go figure! Even if you do not know the family disorder, as well as it does in the book, which was a good decision to focus more on Perry and Dick and pain-game in the process of tracking these guys down. John Forsythe is also impressive as Alvin Dewey. They are not simply defects in a no. 10 out of 10. Best performance = Scott R. Wilson Blake with a close second. Highly recommended!
I saw this in the theater during its initial release and it is disturbing as it then I am sure it would remain. It was the first part of this is 68 and still doing the rounds in cities across America and recently had been a mass murder in my hometown where I have seen that this was a man in a shooting Rampage. The freshness of the close-to-home event in conjunction with this true story dramatized in a very disturbing theatrical experience. It really brought to life the excellent performance of Robert Blake and Scott Wilson. I was familiar with the novel based on true events by Truman Capote and the script and the direction of Richard Brooks wove the event and the interpretation of Truman in forcing the gritty film adaptation. Music by Quincy Jones who actually scores in history. I have seen only a couple of times since then. It's too real. Almost like being a witness to the crime itself and riding along with the murderers. I'd like to give this a 9.0 of a possible 10. The society is so desensitized to violence and crime that now seems likely that this slow and Tame and could be seen with less effect, but anyone over 50 this will be a hallmark in the examination of the criminal psyche.
Richard Brooks excellent 1967 film Truman Capote's novel in cold blood is a perfect companion piece to Philip Seymour Hoffman's Oscar-winning performance in 2005 Capote. They play really well together (they dealt with separately nights). It is rare to find films in 38 years that separate mesh so well. These two really improve each other. Despite the different actors play the role of the murderers Perry Smith and Dick Hickock, the two pieces blend well. Only part of the writer (played by Paul Stewart) in the film Brooks is weaker because it gives you a different name then Capote. I suggest seeing Capote in the first place, followed by cold-blooded. It becomes a powerful experience!
Sorry, I do not have much time to write. I'm not a psychologist, but have seen a 25. Scott Wilson said that portrayed a sociopath (no conscience) extremely well. I agree! He also said that Robert Blake portrays a person with anger and impulse control that he had a conscience, but can not control himself excellent. I agree! What cooling and a great movie. I have seen over 2,000 movies and this rank in the top 100. My lifelong friend deals with clients like these regularly. My only criticism was the preachy narration at the end of the film. Many people grow up in less than ideal circumstances, but only one in a million will behave like these 2 no losers.
